Children's Adaptive programs
The Malcolm-Knox Aquatic Centre offers a variety of recreational gym and swim programs for children with special needs.
Aqua Percept is designed to serve those children who are of average or above average intelligence, free of physical and sensory handicaps, but who may have perceptual or attention deficits.
Adapted Gym and Swim has been designed for children with special needs, who would benefit from a more individual gym and swim program.
Adaptive Aquatics is a swimming program designed for those children with physical, sensory, and/or intellectual challenges, needing individual instruction.
NOTE: For first time registrants, it is important to speak with the program supervisors to ensure your child is placed in the appropriate program.

AQUA PERCEPT
A non-competitive gym and swim program for children who might not otherwise participate in regular physical activities. This may be due to poor coordination, perceptual motor difficulties or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. A ratio of 3 children to 1 instructor along with positive reinforcement have made this program a resounding success.

AQUA PERCEPT SPORT (8-13 years)
This is an Aqua Percept program that has been modified to cater to older children. The first hour is divided between the weight room and group gym activities. The second hour is comprised of swimming lessons and group games in the pool.

ADAPTED GYM AND SWIM
A gym and swim program, for children 3 years and over, with special needs, who could benefit from a 1 to 1, or 2 to 1 student - instructor ratio. A half hour gym session helps to develop gross motor skills and a positive self-image in a non-competitive environment. A half hour Olympic Way Inc. swimming lesson follows the gym session.

FINE MOTOR (4 - 12 years)
A half hour of activities and games primarily focused on practicing fine motor skills and the continuing development of social skills. The program is designed for children who are participating in the Adapted Gym and Swim program.
