BRONZE MEDALLION
Prerequisites: 13 years old, passed Red Cross Swim Kids 10 or Olympic Way Silver level

Bronze Medallion teaches basic lifesaving principles. Candidates learn rescue procedures for both conscious and unconscious victims.  For Olympic Way Silver level requirements please click here.

BRONZE CROSS

Bronze Cross continues the Lifesaving procedures taught in Bronze Medallion. Bronze Cross candidates are better prepared to assess dangerous areas and dangerous behaviours in order to keep aquatic facilities safe and to prevent accidents.

STANDARD FIRST AID (16 hrs)
Prerequisites: 15 years old, Bronze Cross

The Lifesaving Standard First Aid course prepares the candidate to take on the role of medical attendant during an emergency situation. The candidate will learn specific first aid and treatment strategies to prevent further injury while waiting for the arrival of emergency medical services. The candidate is also trained to recognize signs and symptoms of potential danger.

NATIONAL LIFEGUARD

The elements of the Lifesaving Certificate are presented so that candidates develop the 4 main elements of life guarding: knowledge, judgement, physical ability and skills. While reinforcing the guarding techniques and skills acquired in the previous courses, this course aims to encourage the decision-making process which allows lifeguards to act in a way that can prevent emergencies and be prepared to intervene in emergency situations in different environments.

LIFESAVING INSTRUCTOR

This certification prepares candidates to teach the following lifesaving courses: Bronze star, Bronze medallion and Bronze cross. They learn educational strategies to enable them to teach and assess first aid situations, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other lifesaving techniques.

OLYMPIC WAY INSTRUCTOR

The Olympic Way Instructors course is a certificate program designed to give participants a solid foundation of the Olympic Way swimming program. This is a practical hands-on approach that teaches the new instructor to conduct a safe, fun swimming lesson at all levels of the Olympic Way program. Skills and techniques necessary to effectively teach the 4 competitive swimming strokes will be taught. Candidates will be asked to do 3 hours of observation throughout the 10 week program.

The Pointe-Claire Aquatic Centre reserves the right to cancel classes if participation is insufficient.
